Good sized cage and would have plenty of room to house a couple of rats but I suspect rats would be able to get through the bars. I use mine for my ferret to sleep in when she needs locking in so there is just enough room for her blanket, double food bowl and a space for pooping but it wouldn't be big enough for a ferret sized animal to live full time. It could have done with four clips to hold it togetehr though (mine only came with two which I think is the standard) but apart from that all goo
